SEA Hut With Tasty Southeast Asian Cuisine Has Grand Opening In Elk Grove

Nam Khao with crispy rice, nam sausage, cilantro, green & red onion,
kaffir lime leaves, served with cucumber & lettuce

SEA Hut, a Southeast Asian restaurant, is having it’s Grand Opening in Elk Grove. Owned by Mora Som of Taste of Angkor, the new restaurant boasts many favorites such as Beef, Chicken, and Pork Skewers, Papaya Salad, Egg Rolls, and Beef & Chicken Laab.

The SEA in SEA Hut stands for Southeast Asian. Sea Hut’s sister restaurant Taste of Angkor in South Sacramento boasts Cambodian cuisine. Mora Som describes SEA Hut’s fare as a cross between Cambodian, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisine.

SEA Hut is located on Elk Grove-Florin road, where Twisted Bites used to be next to the liquor store.

The Food

SEA Hut Platter with Chicken, Beef, Pork, Meatballs, and Papaya Salad

For those of you who have never had Southeast Asian or Cambodian food, it’s really pretty tasty. The owner steered me towards the SEA Hut Platter. It’s a yummy, meat filled sampler with Pork, Chicken, Beef, and Meatballs and a generous portion of their Papaya Salad. Definitely share this with a fellow meat lover. Their Papaya Salad  is made with green papaya, fish sauce, crab paste, shrimp paste, tamarind juice, tomato and served with noodles and cabbage. It’s really  is the perfect mix of tangy, sour, and spicy. I highly recommend getting the SEA Hut Platter if you’re a first timer.

Chicken Laab with boneless chicken,  mint, cilantro, red onions,
roasted rice, galangal, lime juice, cucumber, cabbage, and fish sauce

The Chicken Laab is refreshing chicken salad with boneless chicken, mint, cilantro, red onions, roasted rice, galangal, lime juice, cucumber, cabbage, and fish sauce.  It has a surprising kick to it. I should note though that you will be asked how spicy you like your food. I got mild spicy and it still had a good kick.

Grilled Chicken Sandwich on a French baguette with pickled papaya, carrot,
cucumber, cilantro, jalapenos, mayo spread, and soy glaze

Those of you who are familiar with Vietnamese banh mi may want to check out SEA Hut’s sandwiches. They are served on fresh French baguettes with your choice of chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp. Each sandwich comes with pickled papaya, carrot, cucumber, cilantro, jalapenos, mayo spread, and soy glaze. You can get it spicy or non-spicy.

Egg Roll

The Egg Rolls are crunchy and perfect for munching. The Egg Rolls are always freshly fried and served with a sweet sauce. Don’t be surprised if you kill all the Egg Rolls. They really go pretty fast.

The Drinks & Dessert

Passionfruit Smoothie with strawberry bits and passionfruit jelly

Boba lovers will be happy to know that, like Taste of Angkor, SEA Hut also offers a variety of drinks. They have a good selection of smoothies, slushies, and teas. Also, you can add boba, agar balls, mango bits, strawberry bits, peach bits, rainbow or passionfruit jelly to your drinks. I had the Passionfruit Smoothie with strawberry bits and passion fruit jelly and it was outstanding and refreshing. My friend had the Thai Tea and she said it was just as good of a Thai Tea as she had ever had.

SEA Hut also offers Macaron Ice Cream from Gunthers.

 Final Verdict

SEA Hut is now one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite in Elk Grove. Be sure to check out the SEA Hut Platter, the Papaya Salad, and the Chicken Laab. If you like banh mi, definitely try one of SEA Hut’s sandwiches. Don’t be afraid to get several items and split them. You really can’t go wrong with any of your choices here. Also, don’t forget to grab yourself one of their specialty drinks.

Overall, I have no reservations whatsoever about recommending SEA Hut. I am stoked this place is in Elk Grove.  The food and drinks are spectacular, the atmosphere is welcoming and very clean, and the customer service is spot on. Tell Mora that Jax sent you! JAX APPROVED!!
