Dignity Health’s Future Elk Grove Hospital To Conclude Services In South Sacramento

Dignity Health Methodist Hospital

Dignity Health’s future $320 million hospital in Elk Grove will conclude the current use of their Methodist Hospital in south Sacramento.

Methodist Hospital

Methodist Hospital of Sacramento at 7500 Hospital Drive, near Consumnes River College, opened in 1973. Dignity plans to build the new hospital on their 28-acre medical campus on Wymark Drive, south of Elk Grove Boulevard. Dignity’s business plan for a hospital in Elk Grove dates back to early 2010.

As a result of this project, there is necessary relocation of many services in south Sacramento to the new Elk Grove hospital.

Future Location

A $35 million, 68,190-square-foot, three-story medical office building opened seven years ago on Wymark Drive. An outpatient surgery center, physician practices, and imaging services currently occupy the building. Furthermore, Dignity’s Elk Grove campus plans initially incorporated additional developments, including a hospital.

Phyllis Baltz, Methodist Hospital President, shared that the move to Elk Grove should not create access issues for those in the current hospital community in south Sacramento. “We want to partner with the community to be sure we are educating those in the areas we serve on where to go to access their health care needs.”  Baltz continued, “With over 45 years of service, we are very proud to serve a diverse community.”  The service area for Methodist includes Sacramento, Elk Grove, Wilton, and Galt.

Additionally, Baltz shared that the south Sacramento community will have continued access to the Kaiser Permanente South Medical Center. Kaiser offers the only Level 2 Trauma Center in the area. Also, Dignity plans to create additional urgent care access points in the south Sacramento area.

As a non-profit organization, Dignity’s “humankindness” was founded on “the belief that all people deserve medical care, regardless of their background, ethnicity, or circumstances.” Correspondingly, Dignity has provided approximately $30 million in Community Benefits specifically to Elk Grove residents in the past fiscal year.

Community Event

On January 8, 2020, Dignity will have a community unveiling event, at the Wymark property. The event will present the formal plan and vision for the future hospital. The time of the event will be announced in the near future.
