District 56 Cafe Delights With Delectables

District 56 Cafe Delights With Delectables

About District 56 Cafe

District 56 Cafe delights the Community Center with its soft opening. Located inside the new Community Center at Civic Center Drive, it offers a quiet, clean, spacious hangout for friends and family. It is open to the public from Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for breakfast, lunch, snacks or dinner. This is a discrete, safe and serene spot for a business meeting, a study group or a quiet afternoon. With plenty of parking spaces all around the community center, the cafe is easily accessible for everyone.

Seniors 55 and up and veterans are honored with a 10% discount to an already decently priced menu. The cafe was designed to serve the employees, seniors and veterans at the Community Center. However, the word is traveling fast about the delicious hot and cold foods and beverages offered, along with a relaxing and chill environment.

Yolanda and Jesse Hoover are the owners of the District 56 Cafe. They are Elk Grovians who put their heart and soul into their food and into their customer’s experience at the cafe. This is no ordinary cafe, as it caters to the diverse taste buds of Elk Grove. Butter beer, Thai Tea, Root beer Floats, Fruit Smoothies, Expressos, Cappucinos and Lattes are some of the hot and cold beverage attractions. Daily Lunch Specials include themes such as the Asian Tour, Italian Flame, American Comfort, and Latin Fiesta. On any given day, customers can also expect new and interesting specials in various forms of crepes, adobos, and pastas. Dinner to go is also offered along with catering services for private events and company meetings. Delivery options are also available.

Sandwiches, Soups & More

BBQ Pulled Pork Panini (Photo by Sunny Le)

The daily lunch menu offers a terrific and highly recommended BBQ Pulled Pork Panini. This delectable sandwich is filled with generous portions of meat with a sweet and savory barbeque sauce. The panini bread is toasted to a crunch, yet moist and soft on the inside. This is a delicious hot sandwich meant to be eaten immediately.

Chicken Pesto Panini

The Chicken Pesto Panini is another great choice for a hot sandwich, also meant to be eaten immediately. Healthy portions of chicken and pesto are topped with tomatoes, lettuce, onions inside a beautifully toasted panini. The daily lunch menu also offers a Deli Sandwich, Chef’s Salad, and Soup of the Day.

Tomato Soup, Bow tie Pasta, Avocado Toast (Photo by Sunny Le)

Our colleagues at the Elk Grove Tribune have been ranting and raving that this will be our new hangout. Jackie, Sunny and Lu  had great things to say about this spot. The Avocado Toast, Hot Tomato Soup and Bow tie Pasta were some of the items they enjoyed, and even took some home for family. The tomato soup was thick, mildly savory and perfectly warm in temperature as tomato soup should be. The bow tie pasta was deliciously flavored with bites of meat and sausage. I observed many customers ordering this item to go after eating their meals.

Hot Apple Pie

The Hot Apple Pie topped off with whipped cream did not disappoint. In fact, this was our first order upon entering the cafe. It is strategically placed up front on the counter, making it irresistible. This large slice of pie had bite sized  chunks of apples smothered in cinnamon, inside a buttery flaky crust. We were tempted to order another slice, but we needed room for lunch.

Breakfasts, Desserts & Snacks

Breakfast includes crepes, bagels, muffins, pancakes and waffles. A wide variety and assortment of muffins, snacks and goodies are always offered. My colleagues ordered the beautiful desserts as seen below and enjoyed them very much.

A Spacious & Serene Ambiance

Plenty of seating is available inside and outside of the cafe. The exterior faces the swim park and will make a terrific spot for  kids and families to eat and relax in the sunshine. A few feet away, sit a couple of gorgeous fire pits which are lit after 5pm. This area makes another cozy spot for date night, to socialize, or to just enjoy the outdoors. The interior of the cafe is open and spacious. It sits across from the veteran’s center. It felt safe, relaxed and easy going. It envelopes a sense of a close knit community welcoming all with open arms. We were approached by many of the seniors and veterans, and  we quickly became friends.  We all ate and chatted about this new hangout, one that gives folks of all ages and ethnicities an opportunity to get to know each other and expand their social circles in Elk Grove. The element of  food and camaraderie will for certain be a gentle force in uniting the community and creating special bonds of friendship and  memories that will later be spoken of in decades to come.

Recommendation

We absolutely recommend District 56 Cafe to not only seniors and veterans, but to everyone in the community.  The variety of food, drinks, snacks and desserts is designed to please all palates. The environment is impeccably clean, brand new, friendly and welcoming. The pricing of each food item is relatively low, averaging $3 to $7 dollars per item. Beverages range from $2 to $4.50 each.

Overall, this is a spot for all Elk Grovians to enjoy, and we hope you will visit soon. You may just see one of us there, with our families or working on our laptops while enjoying the sunshine.

Until then, bon appetit amigos!
