Elk Grove Unified School District Moves To Online Distance Learning To Finish School Year

In a massive move to meet the needs of Elk Grove students with lockdown restrictions put in place by the state due to COVID-19, and an extended national social distancing date by President Trump to April 30, the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is moving to online schooling for the remainder of the school year.

As California’s fifth largest school district by enrollment, serving over 63,000 students and employing 7,000 staff members, EGUSD has a responsibility to the community, which they are fulfilling with distance learning.

EGUSD was one of the first school districts to issue a shut down because of COVID-19 concerns. Because of the statewide lockdown, the district set out to revise the 2019-2020 schedule. Currently, teachers are sorting through platforms to adapt and create curriculum and develop lesson plans for virtual learning. Teachers have access to Zoom, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft, Synergy, and Edgenuity as they map out the future of instruction.

The district is checking out Chromebooks and hotspots for families in need. Additional hotspots are scheduled to arrive in early April.

Distance learning for high school and middle school students start on Thursday, April 16. Elementary school students begin on April 20.

The school year ends on May 29, 2020 for all of EGUSD.
