Legal Order Issued To Sacramento County To Stay Home During Coronavirus Crisis

[Update: All of California is under statewide order to stay at home after Gov Newsom’s Thursday evening announcement.]

In a legal order, all residents in Sacramento County are directed to stay at home, except for essential activities. The order by Sacramento County Public Health is an attempt to minimize the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

The lockdown order goes into effect at midnight, March 19. It lasts through midnight, April 7.

Residents are allowed to leave their home for essential activities that include:

  • Medical appointments
  • Getting groceries
  • Taking a walk (while practicing social distancing)
  • Taking care of family who may need additional assistance

List of general businesses allowed to operate:

  • Healthcare operations
  • Grocery stores
  • Agriculture operations
  • Businesses that provide food, shelter, and social services to the economically disadvantaged
  • Banks and related financial institutions
  • Hardware stores
  • Plumbers, electricians, exterminators, and other service providers necessary to maintaining safety and sanitation of essential operations
  • Businesses providing mailing and shipping services
  • Educational institutions for the purpose of facilitating distance learning
  • Laundromats, drycleaners, and laundry service providers
  • Restaurants and other facilities that prepare and serve food, only for delivery or take out

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones says he does not want to jail anyone for violation of the order.

As of March 18, there are 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sacramento County. There is, however, a significant and increasing number of suspected cases.
