An Elk Grove Unified School District bus with one student aboard was traveling westbound on Lakemont Drive in Elk Grove when it hit three vehicles parked on the street. Surveillance video from a neighbor showed the school bus crashing into a parked car before it hit other cars in its path. One of the vehicles went through a fence and struck a house. There was damage to the house and a water line.

The sound of the crash was intense, according to neighbors.

The damaged cars belong to neighbor, Robert Calderon, who said, “I guess I’m still in shock at the moment.” “Number one, I’m just glad no one was hurt or seriously injured. You know the car can be replaced.”

Emergency responders and transportation officials responded immediately to the scene. They examined both the student and driver, and fortunately, no injuries came of the collision. No one else in the vicinity was harmed either. The student was taken to a new bus and the student’s parents were contacted.

A spokesperson for Elk Grove Unified School District says the crash is under investigation. The bus driver has been placed on leave.

From Xanthi Pinkerton Spokeswoman of EGUSD:

“On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at approximately 3:30pm, A smaller Elk Grove Unified School District bus carrying one student was traveling westbound on Lakemont Drive in Elk Grove and struck and damaged three vehicles parked along the street. One of those vehicles was pushed through a residential fence and struck a residence causing visible damage to the residence and a water line.

Emergency responders and transportation officials immediately responded to the scene and examined both the student and driver. Fortunately neither the student nor the driver nor any person near the incident reported any injuries from the collision. The student was transferred to a new bus and the student’s parents were immediately contacted. A thorough investigation is underway and the bus driver has been placed on leave pending the investigation.

The safety and security of our students is the District’s top priority, especially when transporting students on school buses. The District is grateful that there were no reported injuries.”
