New Elk Grove Outdoor Recreation Center Opens November 6

On November 6, Elk Grove welcomes a new outdoor recreation center, The Preserve at District 56. The Preserve’s Grand Opening is scheduled for Saturday, November 6 at District 56 from 11 am through 2 pm. District 56 is located at 9701 Big Horn Boulevard and offers a 30 acre peaceful and natural oasis. Hosted by the City of Elk Grove, The Gand Opening is free for all ages and includes a short ceremony and scavenger hunt. Bring the family, enjoy music and refreshments.

Land Water Conservation Fund Grant

The Preserve project, which started construction in July 2020, is now only two weeks away from opening. The City of Elk Grove used a $3 Million Land Water Conservation Fund Grant from California State Parks to fund the project. The recreation center comes nearly two years since the aquatics center opened but immediately closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. The recreation center will include a number of areas for outdoor entertainment, acres of wetland, and plenty of nature trails to enjoy with the family.

Climbing Playground & Outdoor Exercise Area

The Preserve’s outdoor entertainment will feature a climbing playground and an outdoor exercise area. A great addition for the overall wellness of all ages to get and stay physically active. In these unprecedented times, movement and nature are even more important to maintain an emotional work, family, life balance.

The Preserve is envisioned as passive park space, a peaceful oasis in the center of the city. The project will include habitat restoration of wetlands, native grasslands, and preservation and expansion of the native oak forest.

Open Meadows & Wetlands

As mentioned, The Preserve will connect Elk Grove residents to more natural views and settings. The trails, open meadows, and wetland overlooks will be a way to connect with nature without having to travel far from home. Additionally, the preservation and expansion of the native oak forest mean more beauty to feast your eyes.

Site amenities will include a network of trails, benches, picnic tables, wetland area overlooks, open meadow, outdoor exercise equipment, play equipment, and interpretive signs to create a serene gathering place at the heart of our community.
