Memorial Day Weekend Recap: Visting The Third Annual North VS South BBQ Wars

Memorial Day Weekend marks the informal start of Summer. This year, the 2021 Summer season got off to a great start with the third annual North Vs South BBQ Wars! If you missed this epic battle for Sacramento’s best BBQ,  then you definitely missed a great time! Elk Grove Tribune visited the event for this report.

On Saturday, May 29th at Florin Square, 2251 Florin Road, crowds from Sacramento and Elk Grove came out to celebrate the art of BBQ! Of course, what’s a BBQ without entertainment, right? North Vs South BBQ Wars also featured music from radio station KDEE 97.5 and local vendors. More on this below. The main attraction: The tiebreaker for the best BBQ in Sacramento.

Spoiler alert! North Sacramento represented big! The North Team won North Vs South BBQ this year, breaking the year-long tie. Congratulations to the North Team: Ragu Green & Them, SilverBack BBQ Ribs, CMB BBQ, Global Eats, and The Last Supper Smokehouse. DaddyO’s Smokehouse, Big Lovin BBQ, Urban Grill, and JT BBQ, representing Team South Sac, definitely also came through with the good eats.

Think the judges had it easy? Next time you are in the mood for some BBQ, whether you are in the North or the South, you have some hard decisions to make too!

The Black Friday Coalition

Hosted by Black Friday Coalition, the organizers of North Vs South BBQ Wars outdid themselves again. Find out more about the Black Friday Coalition organizers, check out this November 2020 Elk Grove Tribune article.

In addition to BBQ, Black retail vendors were out at North Vs South BBQ Wars, selling handmade items, clothes, sweets, and other stylish products. Many of the businesses are still trying to recover from the hard-hit of Covid-19, but the big smiles could be seen through the masks.

Good vibes all around!
