Elk Grove Thundering Herd Wins State Championship
The Elk Grove High School Varsity Boys basketball team took home the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division II State Basketball Championship at the Golden 1 Center on Mar 12.
This makes history for both Elk Grove High School and for the City of Elk Grove. The team took on Santa Ana’s Foothill High School on Golden 1’s floor in the ultimate face off. Scoring a 62-56 victory, the team took on a historic win as this is only the second time a Sacramento County school has taken home the championship.
“When our Elk Grove athletes excel, we celebrate their success as a community, City of Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen said.
“This amazing Boys Varsity Basketball team did something no other Elk Grove basketball team has done before — clinching the school’s first Division 2 state title last month at Golden One Center.–City of Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen
Indeed, this is a first for Elk Grove High School’s basketball program, and is something that has been years in the making. Both teams fought hard until the final buzzer rang. Most importantly, both teams are commendable for their dedication and excellent sportsmanship.
The team was also honored by Elk Grove leaders at the Old Town Plaza on Wednesday April 6.
“Elk Grove values and takes pride in our next generation. We cherish these moments when we can celebrate their successes both on and off the court.”-Elk Grove Vice Mayor, Darren Suen
From the EGT crew, congratulations team, you make our city very proud!
