Mud Pie Stand Vegan Bakery Soft Opening In Sacramento

Mud Pie Stand Vegan Bakery Soft Opening In Sacramento

Mud Pie Stand celebrated a soft opening last Sunday. Located on the quiet 14th Street of beautiful Sacramento, this vegan bakery (yes, vegan!) serves terrific desserts and delectable dishes. Every item served is one hundred percent vegan, and might I add, magically delicious! I was surprised to taste vegan dishes and sweets that easily beat out the competition, both vegan and non-vegan.

It was definitely a busy day for Mud Pie Stand owners Sal and Deanya. They spent most of last Saturday’s soft opening mingling with guests, serving gorgeous spreads of vegan cupcakes, croissants, cookies, and jalapeno bread. Sal and Deanya also offered us a limited sneak peek of the menu for the day which included Shepard’s Pie, Chorizo Mac & Cheese, Couch Potato Plate, White Chili & Corn Bread. I visited Mud Pie Stand’s soft opening with my vegan friends and we left extremely pleased. We even posted pics on social media speaking wonders of this adorable cafe, and of all the scrumptious dishes they enjoyed at the soft opening.

About Mud Pie Stand

Mud Pie Stand originally began in a traveling blue, Volkswagen van. Sal was the bread baker, Deanya the pastry chef. They both sold vegan desserts and vegan food from the back of their van. Both quickly made a name for themselves in the vegan community, and around town. You may have seen Sal and Deana with the blue Volkswagen van on Good Day Sacramento recently. Word spread fast about their incredible food and desserts. So incredible that you would never guess that it’s all 100% vegan. Google Reviews, Happy Cow, Restaurant Guru, and Abilion all rate Mud Pie Stand 5-stars. Right now, you order from Mud Pie Stand online. However, Mud Pie Stand’s Grand Opening is on the way.

Ambiance

The iconic blue van now sits boldly in from of Mud Pie Stand, giving 14th Street a sense of nostalgia and a cool 60’s vibe. The cafe has a warm, inviting, serene, beach town, hometown feel. It sits on a corner street and offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Upon entering, we immediately felt the warmth and friendliness of the staff, who tended graciously to each of us hungry customers. Guests inside immediately started recommending plates to me and seemed to have voracious appetites for anything and everything the cafe offered.

I saw several guests buy one or two of every item offered. Some hung around and schmoozed with us as we ate and chatted about the food. Mud Pie Stand is definitely not just an ordinary vegan cafe on 14th street. This is a place that represents good food, good people, friendship, and camaraderie.

Shepard’s Pie with Soft Rolls

Delectable Vegan Dishes

The Shepard’s Pie is a downright delicious pie, boasting multiple flavors and textures in every morsel. The aroma and tastes in this dish could easily fool anyone into believing it was a traditional beef pie, not vegan. This is an 8-inch pie, with a buttery crust filled with a rich beefy stew, topped with creamy mashed potatoes. The beefy stew is filled with vegetables and pieces of vegan meat. The aroma from the stew was enticingly beefy. The mashed potatoes were thick, rich, and creamy. The crust was baked to perfection, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside.

The savory stew fillings were hearty and delicious. As my personal preference, however, I could have done without the meat pieces in the stew. I was very happy with the portion, and we were all extremely impressed with this dish. I highly recommend it, whether you are a vegan or not. This dish can be split between 2 or 3 people, depending on portion preference.

Vegan Heaven

Additionally, two insanely delicious soft rolls were served with the Shepard’s Pie. We were all in agreement that these were the best soft rolls ever. I would not be surprised if this golden bread alone turns into a global empire for Mud Pie Stand. They were absolutely addicting. We could not stop at just one. They were fresh, light, flaky, buttery, soft, warm, with a hint of sweetness. They were completely unforgettable. I highly recommend the soft rolls if you are a bread lover, like myself. Please let me know your thoughts on these soft rolls. I cannot say enough about them. We were all definitely blown away.

Chorizo Mac & Cheese

We decided to order the Chorizo Mac & Cheese since a customer was ranting and raving about it. This is a seven-inch pan, filled with a house-made Mac & Cheese, and house-made Chorizo crumbles with Panko. This is another very hearty dish that will fill you up in just a few bites. The Mac & Cheese is thick, rich, creamy, and smooth. The cheese although vegan, is just as tasty as regular cheese, with a very slight difference in taste. The chorizo crumbles spread on top adds a salty, spicy, crunchy element to this already delish dish. I highly recommend the Chorizo Mac & Cheese. It feeds two to three people and is very heavy and comforting food.

Two scrumptious pieces of cornbread are served with this dish. The cornbread was sweet, warm, moist, and buttery. It goes well with the Mac & Cheese, as it adds another layer of deliciousness to this already superb meal.

Jalapeno Bread

In addition, I highly recommend the very impressive and addicting Jalapeno Bread. This was a warm, buttery, soft, light, flaky bread. It was filled with subtle flavors of spicy jalapeno peppers and other exotic, aromatic herbs. The jalapeno bread was definitely unusual, and an absolutely unforgettable item here at Mud Pie Stand. You will definitely find yourself ordering more to-go, just as we did. Again, please let me know your thoughts on this bread, and if you loved it just as much as we did.

Lemon Raspberry Cupcake

Vegan Cupcakes, Cookies & Sweet Treats

The lemon raspberry cupcake was bursting with multiple flavors of tangy lemon and sweet raspberries. The cupcakes here at Mud Pie Stand are most definitely some of the best I have had. Each one better than the other, and all much tastier than a traditional cupcake. Surprisingly soft, moist, fluffy, and light. The icing was very sugary and sweet. It was a bit too sweet for my taste buds, as I am not much of an icing fan. However, if scooped with the sliver of the cake, and the raspberries, it makes a perfect high-end dessert.

Dipped Cupcake

I also suggest you try the Dipped Cupcake if you are a chocolate-lover like myself. The vegan dark chocolate was better than most dark chocolates out there. The cake was soft, moist, flavorful, and airy. It went well with the solid dark chocolate topping and vanilla sweet cream icing.

Strawberry Lemonade Cupcake

The Strawberry Lemonade cupcake came highly recommended. This is a cupcake that bursts with flavors of lemon tart in the cake. The sweet strawberry icing on top combined with the lemon cake was different and delightfully delicious. This item was another light, fluffy, airy cake baked with no eggs. Everyone I spoke to absolutely loved this beauty. I highly recommend you try this goodie. You will be pleasantly surprised that it is a hundred percent vegan and absolutely delicious.

Double-Double Chocolate & Snickerdoodle Cookies

The Double-Double Chocolate Cookie was another one of our favorites. I highly recommend this to all of you choc-lovers. Soft and moist, baked to perfection, this cookie aims to please the palate. The Snickerdoodle was equally as delicious, also soft, moist, and buttery. It was hard to believe that all the ingredients were vegan, and yet so tasty, if not tastier than any other cookie I have tried. In my opinion, they beat all of their competitors out there in the world of cookies, vegan and non-vegan. I would choose these cookies any day and any time, for our family and friends.

My Overall Recommendation

I highly recommend the food and desserts at Mud Pie Stand. I was very impressed, as was my family, and my friends. We will be frequent and returning guests at this cafe, whether we dine-in or take-out. If you are a vegan, you will enjoy the Mud Pie Stand very much. If you are a non-vegan, this little cafe may just convince you to go vegan. I say give it a try, you will not regret it. Who would have thought that vegan desserts and comfort foods could be this fabulous! Congratulations to Sal and Deanya, thank you for creating delicious vegan foods for us at Mud Pie Stand!
