Today’s Lockdowns At Elk Grove High School & Markofer Elementary

The Elk Grove Unified School District issued a statement regarding the lockdowns today at Elk Grove High School and Markofer Elementary. The statement is below. Director of Communications and PIO for Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD), Xanthi Soriano, issued the statement.

Statement From Elk Grove Unified School District

Today, at approximately 11:55 P.M., as a precaution, local law enforcement called for a lockdown at Elk Grove High School and Florence Markofer Elementary, after receiving a report of a possible weapon on campus at Elk Grove High School, involving police activity, responding in the area during dismissals. Students who had just dismissed at Kerr Middle School were also redirected back to the school as a safety precaution. Law enforcement immediately investigated and identified the individual in question and quickly determined there was no threat at any time. What was thought to have been seen and subsequently reported as a weapon was not so.

Elk Grove Unified School District officers who responded immediately, following emergency protocols, helped to secure the schools and lockdown. At approximately 12:44 P.M., local law enforcement lifted the lockdown, and an all clear was given for each school. All students and staff followed the emergency lockdown procedures and responded effectively and efficiently, and all were safe.

An Abundance Of Caution

The Elk Grove Police Department investigated the incident and learned that a student was acting out a movie scene and was using a stapler as a prop. In addition, officers also learned that the person who reported the incident said that they believed they saw a weapon. The incident has since been turned over to the school administration to handle.

We appreciate the community’s assistance in staying out of the area while resources responded to the scene to quickly get the situation resolved.
