Elk Grove Native Jacob Daniel Murphy Makes His Way To “The Voice”
An Elk Grove native made his way to NBC’s hit show The Voice. Twenty-seven year old Jacob Daniel Murphy sang Aretha Franklin’s Until You Come Back to Me and won the hearts of the coaches and viewers. Coach Blake Shelton turned around seconds before the song ended and chose Murphy to be on his team. Coach Nick Jonas regretfully stated, “Murphy’s performance was phenomenal, and I think I messed up.” Coach John Legend said the quality of Murphy’s voice was “exceptional.” Murphy is now officially on Team Blake and will move forward in the battle round competition.
Murphy’s Early Life
During an interview with the Elk Grove Tribune (EGT), Murphy told EGT that he somehow knew his calling as a musician at an early age. He grew up in Elk Grove, in what he describes as a loving home filled with music. He describes his family as a “culture pot” with his mom being Filipino and dad Mexican/Irish. He comes from a family of military men. In Murphy’s family, he considers himself more of an artist.
Growing up in Elk Grove, Jacob attended Bradshaw Christian School and was then homeschooled from 6-12 grades. “Homeschooling gave me a chance to develop my talents as a singer and song-writer,” Murphy tells EGT. His first glimpse of musical success came at 7 years old when he auditioned for a church musical and won the lead role.
Murphy moved to Los Angeles in 2016 with hopes of succeeding in the music industry as a singer and a song-writer. Prior to his move, Jacob attended Oklahoma State University where he studied communications and public relations.
A Word for All Artists
Murphy expressed his deep gratitude toward his parents and his family for supporting his dreams and for encouraging him to follow his heart. He also expressed much gratefulness towards Elk Grove, his hometown, for supporting him in his musical endeavors and for rooting for him on The Voice.
To all the future hopefuls, Murphy advises: “Don’t stop. Believe in yourself. Don’t ever stop. Have confidence and always keep going with what you love!”
Thank you, Jacob, for your beautiful interview with the Elk Grove Tribune. We wish you a world full of happiness and success on your journey. We are all very proud of your success on The Voice.
