Homemade Egg Noodles
Noodles. Comfort food to many, and often times quite scary to the typical at-home cook. There is often a misconception that noodles are hard or nearly impossible to make. However, much like sourdough bread or peanut butter cups, once you know how to make them, there’s no going back. So today we’re learning how to make simple Egg Noodles with easy and common ingredients! Let’s get started!!
Ingredients
- 1 Cup of Flour (white is good, nothing fancy is necessary)
- 1/2 tsp. of salt
- 2 large eggs
Step 1: Combine the flour and salt in a large shallow bowl (a bowl with short edges). Make a well in the center, almost like a hole in the flour, to hold the eggs. Crack the eggs into it.
Step 2: Use a fork to whisk the eggs while slowly stirring in the flour.
Step 3: Continue stirring until the flour is completely combined with the eggs. If flakey or dry, add a bit of water.
Step 4: Then take the sticky dough out and place it on a floured surface. Knead with your hands for 5-10 minutes (the longer the better) until the dough is firm.
Step 5: Chill the dough for one hour in plastic wrap.
Step 6: Roll the dough out on a floured surface with a floured rolling pin. Roll until desired thickness (if you have a pasta maker, then use this now). I prefer thicker noodles, so I rolled mine to about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 7: Once the dough is thin enough, use a pizza cutter to slice individual slices (to make your individual noodles). Then you can decide how short or thin you would like them! This is all customizable!
Step 8: See, I told you they were easy. Lastly, all you have to do is cook them like you would any other noodle (pay attention while cooking, because they will be softer and more fresh than the store-bought ones). Now you can do whatever you want with them! Egg Noodles taste great with pasta sauce, in chicken noodle soup, or noodle casserole! Enjoy!!!
