Huckleberry’s Is The Restaurant You’re Looking For
Situated in the shopping center of Harbor Point Drive and Elk Grove Boulevard is Huckleberry’s Breakfast and Lunch. This southern and bayou-themed restaurant has finally opened, exclaiming that it serves “southern cookin’ with a California twist.” And I have to say, I was impressed and thrilled with the food and service. For those of us who love southern cuisine, or are from the south, this place comes with the highest recommendations.
The husband and I arrived here at 10 A.M. on opening day and was not surprised at the small line at the door. The restaurant was packed, with many parents bringing their kids along. The atmosphere was lively and busy, with Cajun-style music blaring over the speakers. The decor was rustic and interesting, as the husband and I were greeted by crocodiles. (Or were they alligators?)
After waiting fifteen minutes for a table to open up, we placed our orders. I was pleasantly surprised to see that alcoholic beverages were offered, although I decided not to partake today. Instead, I got a sugar-rimmed strawberry lemonade and my husband got a Coke. Both drinks came in mason jars.
The Food
I ordered the Tom’s Scramble with hash browns, and he got the Breakfast Burrito with a side of ham. The Tom’s Scramble comes with a fluffy and doughy biscuit with country fried chicken and scrambled eggs that are topped with white gravy. I loved the biscuit — it wasn’t extremely flaky but had enough fat and flavor to compliment the chicken and eggs. The eggs were cooked well and the chicken was crispy on the outside but tender on the inside.
My husband’s burrito was filled to the brim with potatoes, eggs, red bell peppers, onions, and sausage. The portion size was immense, and unless you’re a big person, a fork is needed to eat. The ham was delicious, cooked with a slight crisp on the outside to give a bit of crunch.
While we left Huckleberry’s content and full, I desperately want to go back. I wish I had a bigger stomach because there is so much left to try. Beignets are a hit in the south, and Huckleberry’s offers them. I also want to try the stuffed French Toast along with their Gold Medal Chicken and Waffles. If you love breakfast, lunch or brunch, this is a wonderful and homely place. Although don’t come here for dinner, the restaurant will be closed.
Huckleberry’s is located at 2745 Elk Grove Boulevard. They open at 6 A.M. and close at 3 P.M.
