WinCo Shooting Suspects Apprehended
1 Male Adult & 1 Juvenile Arrested
The Elk Grove Police Department has arrested the two suspects responsible for shooting a teen in the parking lot of WinCo located at 8142 Sheldon Road. The shooting occurred two days ago. Public Information Officer, Jason Jimenez, confirmed the driver, Devonntay Jones-Carnes, was the shooter.
On an early morning of December 28th before 5AM, a 15 year old male was shot in the parking lot of WinCo. First of all, it started off with the two suspects exiting the store and encountered a very brief verbal exchange with the victim. According to Elk Grove Police Department, while the victim and his group was walking towards their vehicle, the suspects got into a white Toyota sedan and drove towards them. Afterwards, the vehicle stopped and the driver exited the vehicle. He pointed the handgun and shot the victim and then fled the scene in the white Toyota sedan.
On Saturday December 29th, Elk Grove Police Department released the suspect’s pictures, asking for the community’s effort in locating the persons responsible for the shooting. Later, they arrested a 17 year old juvenile from Sacramento after he turned himself in.
With the assistance of the Sacramento Police Department, the Elk Grove Police Department arrested 21 year old Davonntay Jones-Carnes of Elk Grove earlier today. Important to note, both of the suspects have been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. Jones-Carnes is in the process of being transported to Sacramento County Jail. His photo will be released after he is booked. The juvenile was transported to juvenile hall. Pictures of juveniles are not released to the public.
