Breakdown Of Donations To Elk Grove Mayoral Candidates; Mayor Ly Receives $50,150 From CNU Related People Since 2018

The position of Mayor of Elk Grove is up for re-election this year. Many citizens have expressed interests and concerns regarding donations that the political candidates have received. Elk Grove Tribune has included a breakdown of the donations received by candidates Mayor Steve Ly, EGUSD Trustee Bobbie Singh-Allen, and Brian Pastor. This breakdown is for 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Donation Summary

In 2019, Mayor Steve Ly received $130,018 in monetary donations. In 2020, Mayor Steve Ly received $140,486.34, as stated by the September 19, 2020 Campaign Disclosure Statement. However, that number is expected to rise.

In particular, citizens will be interested to note that $50,150 of Ly’s campaign donations for the 2020 election come from CNU related people, including CNU President Dr. Alvin Cheung and Katherine Yang Vice President of CNU Academic Affairs.

In 2020, EGUSD Trustee Bobbie Singh-Allen received $124,716.00 in monetary donations as stated by her September 19, 2020 Campaign Disclosure Statement. It is also expected that this number will rise.

Brian Pastor has not received monetary donations, according to the City Clerk’s Office.

From 2018 to 2020, Mayor Steve Ly has received $50, 150 from California Northstate University. In 2019 and 2020, CNU totaled $39,300. Mayor Ly reported raising $142,000 in 2019 (including non-monetary donations), 21% of which was from California Northstate University and its affiliates. Dr. Lakhjit Sandhu is a Clinical Course Director for CNU, and CNU Students intern for him at his practice CHMA in Fresno. Sandhu works for the California Heart Medical Associates.
