Around 2 PM Wednesday authorities were called to Monterey Trail High School. A 15 year old student experienced breathing issues after being attacked. A video circulated on social media caused consternation in the community. Witnesses state that a male student took a fire extinguisher and used it to repeatedly hit another student. The attack was unprovoked.
The victim’s parents, Damitria Malone and Kawame Curry state that their family is trying to stay strong for their son. We spoke to Kawame Curry Senior, the father of the 15 year old victim, Kawame Curry Junior.
“For me I know there is a narrative going out that my son was bullying this child. That is not the case. My son was approached by this kid trying to take his Jordans and my son stood his ground. My son said he didn’t want a problem with him. The day went on, the kids went to 2nd and 3rd period with no words exchanged. At lunch, my son was standing in line and was assaulted in his head with a fire extinguisher.”

Kawame Curry would like everyone to know that his son did not do anything wrong and simply, didn’t want to let another kid take his Jordans. The father is frustrated at what he sees as a school system unable to protect students just trying to go school. Curry states that his son doesn’t want to return to Monterey Trails High School.
“To hear my son say that he never wants to come back to this school ever again…it hurts, it hurts.”
