Regional Transit Lowers Fares
In an unusual move, Sacramento Regional Transit will lower fares for the first time in 47 years starting October 1. The lowering of fares is the result of cost-cutting measures implemented by Sacramento Regional Transit according to Henry Li, Sacramento Regional Transit General Manager.
The single ride will decrease from $2.75 to $2.50 while the discount single ride will decrease from $1.35 to $1.25. In a similar fashion, the monthly pass will decrease from $110 to $100, while the discount monthly pass will decrease from $55 to $50. Individuals who purchase the paratransit single ride will pay $5 rather than the previous $5.50. The super senior fair will decrease from $42 to $40.
Important to note, rides who purchase a single ride will now be able to transfer for just 25 cents between light rail to bus, bus and light rail, or bus to bus. Previously in January 2018, Sacramento Regional Transit already lowered the student monthly pass from $55 to $20 for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. A Connect Card or ZipPass already allows riders to transfer without charge.
