Big Rig Crashes, Explodes On I-5 In Elk Grove
Late Monday night, a big rig truck crashed, and blew up in flames, causing a fiery inferno on Interstate 5 in Elk Grove. The crash occurred around 10:30pm, just south of the Laguna Boulevard off-ramp. Northbound I-5 was shut down for several hours after the fiery crash. Nearby residents stated that they felt as if they heard a bomb go off close by to their homes.
California Highway Patrol stated that the big rig, for an unknown reason, drove off the highway and slammed into the guardrails. The truck then swerved off to the left, and crashed into a temporary k-rail in the center median. Both the big rig and its car trailer flipped and overturned upon crashing. It then burst into a scene of fiery flames on the I-5, causing the highway to shut down. The truck was hauling 8 cars at the time of the accident.
C.H.P. officers stated that despite the fiery crash, the driver of the big rig was able to get out, and there were no injuries reported.
