The Grand Reopening Of The Cosumnes CSD Administration Building

Early in the morning of February 20, 2015, a fire broke out that made significant damage to this historic Elk Grove building which was formerly the Elk Grove Grammar School. The historically significant brick exterior still remained even after the fire. During the renovation of the building, the interior was transformed into a modern office space that is energy-efficient. Additionally, this space serves as the board chambers and registration location.

Upon parking my car and walking to this building, you can see the revitalized building as it stood in the sun. The red brick exterior was fresh as the day it was built. Additionally, the white trim was pristine and shined historic. The new sign of the building was modern as can be. Walking up to this building, there is a sense of admiration of this building for beauty as well as its history. As more guests arrive, some had fond memories of this building and you could see it in their eyes.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On the afternoon of April 25th, the Cosumnes CSD Board of Directors reopened this building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony, Gil Albiani, who was the Cosumnes CSD BOard President, stepped up to the podium. A speech started off with community leaders thanking the special people that made this renovation possible. The community filled the front steps of the building as the speech went on. As the speeches ended, the community leaders prompted to cut the ribbon to reintroduce the building to the world.

Office Walk Through
Following the ceremony, staff provided the community with a walkthrough of the new office space. The new office interior was sleek and modern. In addition, the lobby was inviting. While walking in, staff prompted everyone to form lines to do tours of the new office. The new office was nice and modern with ergonomic desks and chairs. Though modern, it was definitely nice to see this. Some noted the layout of the building compared to what it was before. Guests mentioned more nostalgic moments as we passed through the walkways in the building.

Reception
Afterwards, a reception was held for the community hosting light snacks and drinks. Additionally, there was live music. During the reception, the guests talked about memories of the Elk Grove Grammar School and how much Elk Grove grew from several buildings to what it is now. Overall, it was definitely a great experience for everyone.

Elk Grove residents do have nostalgia when it comes to this building. Moreover, it was a landmark for many of the guests.
“I dropped my younger Brother off there to start school in 1966 then I walked across the street to Joseph Kerr after moving to Elk Grove from Los Angeles.”
“That building was the old Elk Grove Elementary School where I was a student in the early 1960’s”
