Elk Grove Police Department Issues Warning Regarding Illegal Fireworks

With the upcoming 4th of July holiday looming, the Elk Grove Police Department is issuing a stern warning to citizens regarding the use of illegal fireworks. Their message essentially is don’t try it! Violators face a steep fine of up to $50,000.

Illegal fireworks include “sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells, firecrackers and other types that explode, go into the air, or move on the ground in an uncontrollable manner.”

Important to note, the 4th of July and the days before and after the 4th of July are the days when the most amount of people are injured by fireworks in the United States. In 2016, there were four deaths in the United States related to fireworks.

Elk Grove Police Department Press Release

Selling, Transporting, or Using Illegal Fireworks is a Crime
ELK GROVE, CA- As residents celebrate our nation’s independence with fireworks, the City of Elk Grove wants to remind everyone that Elk Grove has zero tolerance against illegal fireworks. These fireworks cause a nuisance to our residents, fires, and hazards in our community that are unnecessary.

Illegal fireworks include sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells, firecrackers and other types that explode, go into the air, or move on the ground in an uncontrollable manner. It is illegal to sell, transport, or use fireworks that do not carry the “Safe and Sane” seal, as well as possess or use any fireworks in a community where they are not permitted.

This year, we are teaming up with Code Enforcement and the Cosumnes Fire Department to create a Fireworks Taskforce. The Taskforce will be patrolling neighborhoods to enforce zero tolerance against illegal fireworks. The goal of the Taskforce is to help keep our community safe from injury and help prevent fires sparked by illegal fireworks.

If caught with illegal fireworks, violators will be cited and fined up to $50,000. To report illegal fireworks activity, call 916-714-5115.

We wish everyone a safe and fun time celebrating our nation’s independence!
