Schedule of Virtual Graduation For Local Highschools

Schedule of Virtual Graduation For Local Highschools

Elk Grove Unified School District will hold virtual graduations for over 4,500 seniors during the first week of June. This means these graduates will be watching from home instead of attending a graduation ceremony.

The virtual graduation will consist of speeches and senior performances. Also, they will display the graduates wearing their full graduation cap and gown which was distributed to the students around late April and early May.

Sacramento County Highschools are currently prohibited from hosting in-person graduations. This is due to the County’s stay-at-home order which restricts large public gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.

EGUSD Message

An announcement on May 15th from EGUSD Newsroom details the schedule of the virtual graduation. According to EGUSD, the virtual graduation will include a message from District Superintendent Christopher Hoffman addressing the closure of schools in early March.

“Class of 2020…you will always be remembered as one of the most amazing groups of students who witnessed first-hand a global crisis with the threat of the novel coronavirus. We aren’t out of the woods yet, but there is no one I’d rather walk forward with into an uncertain future than the Class of 2020.”

The original plan from EGUSD was to hold in-person graduation ceremonies at the Golden 1 Center. Additionally, reservations for use of the Golden 1 Center are still valid. Depending on Sacramento County public health experts, graduation events can occur June or July if permitted.
