Memorial Day turned rotten for one suspected DUI driver. Officials said the driver crashed into a Sacramento County liquid manure storage pond.

A phone call from the driver was made to dispatch around 1:30 AM, said the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The driver crashed into a water source at a dairy farm located on Franklin Boulevard near Elk Grove.

During the call, the driver was unaware what he and his vehicle were submerged in.

Almost an hour after the driver’s initial call, Cosumnes Fire Department firefighters found the driver and his vehicle in the manure pond. Besides showing signs of intoxication, officers at the scene learned the driver tried for an hour to pull his vehicle out of the pond before calling 911.

The driver was arrested on DUI charges.
