Pride Month Goes Virtual This Year In Sacramento

With COVID-19 still circulating and limitations to gatherings in place, Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ community is hosting Pride month virtually this week.

There are several live broadcasts scheduled this week and a virtual march and performances on Sunday to finish. The broadcasts cover topics such as social causes, professional development, meditations, story telling, and LGBTQ+ history. Grammy-Award winning artist Mya is listed as one of the performers.

Sacramento Pride events manager and Pride director, Jordan Hosein-Hedmann, said of the celebration: “There’s still those youth at home, and even adults that are at home, that aren’t being able to be themselves. It’s important for us to highlight them and give them a space where they feel they can exist without being so heavily judged by the community.”

This year, the Sacramento Pride website dedicated a section to supporting black lives with a list of resources that encourage action for the black community. Not only that, they placed a focus on breaking down prejudices against Black trans people in the community who are experiencing racism and transphobia.

From a few thousand participants to more than 20,000 people by 2019, Sacramento Pride is set to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

Here’s a list of the festivities this week.
