The city of Elk Grove hosted an information session opened to the public on the upcoming improvements for the Old Town area as well as the streetscape. During the meeting, the presented the three projects that will be implemented in the next few years.

Projects

The presentation consisted of several speakers on each project. First, the Railroad Street Improvements project. Second, the Old Town Plaza Phase 2 and 3. And lastly, the Old Town Streetscape Phase 2 project.

The Railroad Street Improvements Project aims to update Railroad street and increase the functionality of the area. The project will add sidewalks, streetlights, and gutters to adding parking lots and street parking. In this change, it aims to add up to 180 parking spaces. This project begins in Fall 2019.

The Old Town Plaza Phase 2 and 3 project plans to continue improvements in the Old Town area. For Phase 1, it is the implementation of the bathroom area in Old Town. Phase 2, which is set to begin in Spring 2020,  will implement an entrance to the plaza. And for Phase 3, it is dependent on funding and yet to have a begin date. In this phase, the project plan is to develop a pavilion for current events such as the farmers market and festivals.

Old Town Streetscape Phase 2 project will continue the improvements between Walnut Ave and School Street on Elk Grove Blvd from 2006. Continuing in phase 2, the utility undergrounding begins Summer 2020. This invovles relocating the existing utilities along Elk Grove Blvd. Additionally, the removal of raised planter boxes in the medians from Phase 1. This was a change that businesses and residents wanted. The actual streetscape construction begins in Summer 2021.
