CSD Proposing Recreation Center In East Elk Grove
Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) is considering converting what used to be the Senior Center of Elk Grove at 8830 Sharkey Avenue into a community recreation center after the senior center’s move to the new Elk Grove civic center, opening in the fall.
With a 10,000 square foot structure, CSD is asking the public what kinds of recreation programs they would like to see at the center, tentatively named, Beeman Recreation Center. CSD recently met with members from local nonprofits to gather feedback for the development.
CSD Project Manager Fred Bremermann said ideas ranged from recreation classes for different ages, to meeting rooms, to a preschool program. With the space available, he described the possibilities of outdoor fitness activities, summer camp programs, and dog-walking activities. There is, however, no plans to open a teen center at the location, since the Teen Center USA is located nearby.
Two community meetings, hosted by CSD to gather feedback, will take place in the month of July. Those unable to attend the meetings can take an online survey HERE or fill out an idea sheet at the CSD Administration Building, located at 8820 Elk Grove Boulevard.
Bremermann said that after collecting public feedback, they would present the proposed project to the CSD board in the fall.
If approved by the board, the facility would be the first recreation center east of Highway 99. After renovations to the building, the recreation center could open as early as next spring.
