First Confirmed Case Of Coronavirus In Sacramento County
Sacramento County health officials confirmed the first case of travel related coronavirus since the outbreak started in Wuhan, China at the end of December 2019, going into January 2020. Since its detection, the virus has spread to 24 countries, sickening tens of thousands of people and killing over 1,000 people.
The first confirmed Sacramento case is an adult Sacramento County resident. The resident returned to the U.S. from China on February 2.
According to Sacramento County Public Health, the person took precautionary measures during travel and self-quarantined upon their return. Officials said it was during that time that the person started experiencing “mild symptoms.”
Testing was arranged for the Sacramento resident with the Sacramento County Public Health and the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health.
Health officials are reporting the Sacramento resident as “asymptomatic,” no longer showing symptoms of the virus. The resident, however, will remain in mandatory isolation at home until cleared by Sacramento County Public Health.
Sacramento County Public Health says the public’s risk of exposure is extremely low.
