Sacramento Native Greta Gerwig & Her Film Lady Bird Win Oscar Nominations
Sacramento native Greta Gerwig just scored an Oscar nomination in the Best Directing category. She is only female to be nominated in this category this year and only the 5th woman ever to receive a nomination.
Gerwig’s film Lady Bird which was filmed and based in Sacramento, also received Oscar Nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Actress In A Leading Role (Saoirse Ronan), and Actress in A Supporting Role (Laurie Metcalf).
Gerwig herself is just coming to terms with her achievements and the honor of being nominated isn’t lost on her. She hopes to inspire other girls or women who want to be filmmakers.
Lady Bird, based in Sacramento and gleaned from Gerwig’s childhood memories of growing up in Sacramento, won Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. During her acceptance speech for her Best Screenplay Golden Globe she said, “I want to thank the people of Sacramento who gave me roots and wings, and who helped me get to where I am today.”
The Elk Grove Tribune would like to extend our congratulations to Greta Gerwig and the entire cast and production of Lady Bird!
