Elk Grove Police Chase Results In Crash & Fires
On Saturday, around 6 p.m. Elk Grove Police officers attempted to apprehend a suspect in a stolen vehicle near Bond Road and East Stockton Boulevard.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Gonzalo Rodriguez, purposely hit two patrol cars. Additionally, Rodriguez led officers on a chase into the City of Sacramento. Near Consumes River Boulevard and I-5, Rodriguez drove through an open field after a minor crash with another vehicle.
Vehicles Caught Fire
The patrol car and the stolen vehicle caused a fire in the open field due to dry grass and both vehicles sustained fire damage.
Rodriguez was apprehended with the assistance of police K-9 and transported to a local hospital. Rodriguez faces several charges including motor vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, hit and run, resisting arrest and violation of probation.
Fortunately, no one else was injured during the incident.
