Missing 17 Year Old Boy Found Dead On American River Bike Trail

Missing teenager Spencer Bei was found dead Thursday along the American River Bike Trail. Sacramento County’s coroners office reported the location of his body to be the area of mile marker 11.5 on the north side of the river between Watt Avenue and Bradshaw Road.

Bei was a student at Jesuit High School, who first reported his disappearance on Thursday, per the family’s request. He went missing on New Years Eve, Tuesday, last seen in Carmichael wearing black clothing and a backpack. On Friday, Bei’s school reported the 17 year old’s death as a suicide.

The school released a statement regarding Bei’s death, saying: “We mourn his passing and grieve his absence in our community. Mourning the death of a student is perhaps the hardest thing we do as a school community. It is during these times that we rely on the strength of our faith in God and in one another.”

A mass in remembrance of Bei will be held at the chapel at Jesuit High School at 2:00 PM today. The Chapel of the North American Martyrs is open until 6:00 PM. There will be counseling services available to students returning to school on Monday.

The Elk Grove Tribune offers our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Spencer Bei.
